Phishers Try To Net Taxpayers In Their Phishing Schemes

The authorities at the Office of Consumer Affairs are alerting clients against a phishing e-mail fraud planned to resemble an official IRS email, as reported by TheCitizen on April 4, 2008.

The IRS said that "phishing" is a leading tax season fraud since phishers utilize the Internet to purloin money from innocent taxpayers.

Thieves Try Phish Information from a Bank’s Customers

Old Point National Bank issued an alert on March 28, 2008 to tell its customers to look out for fraudulent e-mails that were circulating in the name of the bank.

Users Could Benefit by Being Wary of Phishers

According to Zach Jansen, Information Security Officer, CIT (Calvin Information Technology), phishing e-mails attempted to grab personal information came to the Calvin Webmail ids at least two times every week during February 2008. The e-mails hit about 300-400 accounts every time, as reported by CHIMES on March 28, 2008.
