Security analysts at SophosLabs have disclosed that 92.3% of all messages transmitted in the first quarter of 2008 were unsolicited e-mails. Also, during this time-span, Sophos discovered 23,300 novel spam-related Web pages daily, or one after every three seconds.

Security analysts at SophosLabs have disclosed that 92.3% of all messages transmitted in the first quarter of 2008 were unsolicited e-mails. Also, during this time-span, Sophos discovered 23,300 novel spam-related Web pages daily, or one after every three seconds.

During January-March 2008, the US and Russia held the first and second position respectively. But, both the nations succeeded in decreasing their share in the global spam trouble as opposed to the last quarter of 2007.

First time, Turkey's share to the worldwide spam trouble places it in the leading three rogue violating nations. Infected PCs in Turkey are presently to blame for sending 5.9% of the global spam, as opposed to 3.8% in the last three months of 2007.

As per Carole Theriault, Senior Security Consultant, Sophos, Turkey's emergence within the highest three aims for an exciting shift at the start of the year, but it does not imply that other nations can stop the war against spam, which is now a universal problem and needs to be dealt with, as reported by Itnews on April 16, 2008.

But, during 2007 the volume of spam e-mails relayed from infected Russian PCs increased twofold. During the initial three months of 2007, Russia held the tenth rank, sending only 3% of the overall spam; now this number has risen to 7.4%. Somewhere else in the chart, Britain is ranked ten, accountable for sending 3.4% of the total spam, a rise from 2.5% when it held the12th position in the last three months of 2007.

Moreover, analysts observe that the speed at which new-fangled spam-based Web pages are being developed is especially alarming for companies, and every company must ensure that its spam filters are updated to protect against the most recent threats. By attaching hyperlinks within their e-mails, spammers wish to evade less advanced filters and trap unsuspecting visitors to go to the Web page and later on compromising their computers.

Also, among continents, Asia and Europe lead the spam graph representing 65% of the global spam in the first three months of 2008. The two continents witnessed a rise in the percentage of spam sent contrary to the last three months of 2007, with Asia's experiencing a rise from 32.1-34.3%, and Europe closely following with spam between 27.1-30.7%.
